The Valentine Museum, United States
At the Valentine Museum in Richmond, Virginia, the team wanted to get better at having meaningful conversations with visitors—especially around the ways that the past connects to the present. They had created a powerful new exhibit and were looking to strengthen the skills of their education staff and docents. Over a two-day workshop, Linda introduced dialogic interpretation, and together the team practiced asking thought-provoking questions. A year later, she returned for a follow-up session, tailored to what the team had experienced—both the successes and the challenges. When asked what they were most proud of, staff shared things like, “All the amazing feedback we receive from visitors to the studio” and “how many Valentine staff feel empowered to share info about the studio and Edward Valentine”. This project took place while Linda was part of the team at the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience.
