Angel Island Immigration Station - Reimagining Interpretation Project
Creative Futures is currently working with Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation and Angel Island State Park teams to create a new interpretive Theory of Change for engaging visitors at the site. We began with a two day in-person workshop to build relationships across the team, align their desired impact, brainstorm people-centered outcomes, and build their skills in dialogue, inclusive storytelling, and connecting the past to present. This was followed by virtual workshops to refine the activities and outcomes of the Theory of Change, continue building dialogic interpretation skills and discuss what it means to be a site focused on belonging. In a full day workshop on Prototyping, the team learned how to prototype or experiment with new ideas for advancing their outcomes and working towards the bigger picture impact of creating a future where belonging is a right and a responsibility for everyone. They are currently working collaboratively in small teams to prototype new engagement and interpretation strategies directly with visitors in order to learn what activities will best achieve their outcomes. In the fall, the project will culminate with a finalized Interpretive Theory of Change, a road map for implementation, and training materials for future team members.
